Mute buttons are available in several places in G-Ware. Muting shuts off a signal at that point in the signal path. Here is a list of where muting can be done:
Each mic channel
Each input channel
Each output channel
Each processing channel
Suggestions for muting:
Mute mics that are not in use during a meeting. This cuts down on the amount of "reflected" sound mixed into your final output signal. Having several mics open will result in a "boxy" or "spacious" sound. As you mute unused mics, you will notice the sound becomes more focused with a better bass response.
Mute outputs not in use. Many participants will ask, "Is our audio off?", and if you rely on using the talk checkbox in RAT to mute your audio you may forget about someone on the telco bridge and give your participants a false sense of security. Muting output at the XAP800 assures that no audio is being sent to the rest of the audio system. One easy way to assure that no audio goes out from the room is to mute the process channel where the mics are sent. This gives the operator one button control over muting all the mics in the room. This author has then used VNC to show just the mute button on the display screen so that the audience can see that the mics are muted.
